Most agents do not hesitate to switch brokerages because they are content where they are. They hesitate because they are afraid of the sixty days that follow the move. Will my momentum survive it? Who is going to help me? How long until I close again? Those questions keep good agents parked somewhere they have outgrown for years longer than they should. So here is an honest walk through what those first sixty days actually look like, because the fear is almost always larger than the reality.

If you have followed our last piece 4 Questions to Ask Before You Switch Brokerages, this is the one that comes next. We walked through the four questions to ask before you switch brokerages, and we shared how the way you treat people, even the ones who do not choose you, determines whether they ever come back. You did the diligence, you asked the hard questions, and you picked the place. What happens now?

The first two weeks are almost entirely logistics, and a brokerage worth joining carries most of that weight. There is a real checklist when you move. Your license transfers, your board and MLS memberships move with you, your signage and marketing get swapped, and any active listings and pending deals have to come across without a single ball being dropped. That last piece is where agents panic, and it is exactly where the right brokerage earns its keep. You should not be figuring out how to move a pending deal by yourself at ten at night. A place that has done this dozens of times walks you through it step by step. If the answer to how your transfer works is vague, that vagueness is a preview of what your sixty days would actually feel like there.

Your pipeline does not reset, but your habits get tested. This is the fear talking when agents believe they are starting over. They are not. Your database moves with you, because your past clients, your referral sources, and your sphere were never owned by your old brokerage. They were always yours. What genuinely gets tested in the first sixty days is whether your systems survive the transition. The agents who dip are the ones who let their follow-up slide while the move distracts them. The ones who never miss a beat keep working their database the entire way through. This is the same lesson we covered in our past content: the relationships are the business, and they travel with you.

“Your pipeline doesn’t reset when you move. Your database was always yours, and it comes with you.”

What actually determines your ramp is how fast you plug into the people. This is the factor agents weigh the least, and it matters the most. You can transfer a license in a week. What takes real intention is getting into the room, finding the person you call when a deal turns strange, and learning how this specific team operates. The agents who ramp fastest show up, ask for help early, and get into the mentorship and deal support rather than trying to prove they can manage alone. It is the same reason we told you to ask who you would actually be working alongside. In your first sixty days, that stops being an interview question and becomes something you live every day, and the place you join should make getting into the room the easiest part of the entire move.

The honest version is simple. The first sixty days are logistics you should not carry alone, a pipeline that comes with you, and a room you need to plug into quickly. Do those three well and the move is far smoother than the fear that keeps most agents stuck. Do them without support and it becomes the hard version everyone dreads. The difference is almost entirely the brokerage you land at.

The best way to know whether we are that place is to see it for yourself. We host events across the DMV where you can meet the team and ask the people who have actually made this move what their sixty days looked like. See our events and come find us at one.
